Legacy

What will you leave behind?

At University (many years ago!), a lecturer asked us to imagine we were 88 years of age and near the end of our life. He asked us to look back and write down the things in our life that we thought we would be proud of. He then asked us to write down the things we regretted.

I found that this exercise very clearly put my life and priorities into perspective. I will often try to evaluate my activities and friendships from this angle. It is very easy to make choices and decisions when you know what your values are. We only have one life. Each day only comes along once. It is so essential to enjoy each one and focus on the important things that will last.

I trust that you will enjoy all the people in your life, especially your husband and children. I pray that as a family you will reach out and touch those around you with God’s love and His kindness. May you live a life pleasing to God, and raise godly children who will come to love and serve Him for generations to come.

  1. These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all His decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy a long life. Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you. Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is the one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commands that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hand and bind them on your forehead. Deuteronomy 6: 1 - 8
