Terrific Toddler Tips

Active Child
Are you privileged to be the parent of an overly energetic, busy, bouncy child?
I love the exuberance and love for life that these precious little ones display.
An active toddler needs a very tight routine that is filled with lots of positive opportunities to use all their excess energy.
For this child, I would alternate most of my day between 10–15 minutes of a ‘sitting and focusing’ activity with a good 30–40 minutes of a ‘running and jumping’ one.
Do provide a positive outlet for this energy. A long walk, bikes, balls, bats, climbing equipment and water play for outside energy, and music tapes and instruments, interactive videos (e.g. Wiggles) and dress-ups for inside energy.
Active chores are another proactive way to utilize this energy. Weeding, collecting leaves, washing the car, dusting the skirting boards, sorting the clean washing and delivering it to each room are just a few of the busy chores your active little one can enjoy.
While this excess energy does not excuse them from self-control training, it certainly makes it more challenging!
Do be encouraged, your active little one may take longer to be trained in self-control – but he/she will get there, if you are calm and consistent.
Galatians 6: 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
